Protect your online bank accounts – CWB and CDF introduce increased security features

When you log into your CWB or CDF online bank accounts on and after October 4, 2010, you will see new security features that will provide increased assurance you are conducting your online banking on the legitimate CWB and CDF online banking websites.

Fighting Online Fraud and Phishing

These new security features were developed in response to a growing amount of online bank fraud experienced by all financial institutions. By adding these new security features, it will be more difficult for someone to steal your account information through a process called “phishing”.

“Phishing" is the creation of e-mails and websites that replicate existing, genuine websites and businesses. These sites try to lead you to believe that the requests for information are coming from a legitimate source, thereby scamming you into providing personal, confidential information that can then be used to commit other crimes.

What will change?

When you log into online banking from October 4th, 2010, onwards, you will be prompted to select a security image and phrase, followed by selecting security questions and providing answers. Set up of these new security features will be optional for the first 30 days. On November 3rd, 2010, it will be mandatory to select your security image, phrase and questions.

At the end of this process, you will be asked to register your computer as a “trusted” computer. Our system will remember this computer and every time you log in from it, you will be presented with your chosen security image and phrase. When you log into your bank accounts from computers that are not registered (i.e.: at work, in a hotel, at an internet café, etc…), you will be required to answer your preselected security questions.

How will the security image and questions improve my online security?

Logging into your accounts and seeing your chosen image and phrase will give you greater assurance that you are on the real CWB or CDF website. We are implementing the new security enhancements as another step in preventing phishing and online fraud. We trust you will feel more comfortable in the security surrounding your online banking.
